Saffron needs help!

This is Saffron. She is a Mollucan Cockatoo who had a rough start in life, being moved from home to home. The last 2 years, she was not allowed out of her cage to enjoy human company or freedom to stretch. And believe me, Saffron loves people.
Then, Saffron was improperly restrained and her wing was severely broken. The details are sketchy, but Saffron's owner did realize her bird needed medical attention and brought her to Dr. Burkett at Avian Veterinary Services in Durham, NC.
Saffron's owner, who was unwilling or unable to bear the medical costs for her surgery requested that she be euthanized. Dr. Greg Burkett did not feel it was ethically responsible to end Saffron's life due to an injury that could be surgically repaired.
Thankfully, the owner relinquished Saffron & she is undergoing care @ AVS. Saffron has a delightful personality and a sweet gentle nature. Despite her unfortunate past, Saffron wants to live. Her eyes are full of light and life!
Saffron has already undergone her 1st surgery and has 3 pins connecting the bone in her wing and a custom acrylic support rod installed that will remain in place during her recovery process. Dr. Burkett has
donated his time and talent for Saffron's surgeries and ongoing medical
care, however there are many costs, including use of outside
facilities, labs, medical devices and medications.
She has responded very well to the initial surgery, but must undergo several more surgeries to complete the repair of her wing. The total costs of her care will be several thousand dollars. With no owner to pay for it Saffron needs our help!
Dr. Burkett did an amazing job in surgery & will continue to use his expertise to aid in Saffron's recovery. Unfortunately, the clinic can not continue to provide the extensive care Saffron requires without our help.
A vet tech with AVS has agreed to foster Saffron. She will rehabilitate Saffron in a home environment to help keep the hospitalization costs from continuing to rise. Saffron’s foster mom is making sure she receives everything she needs to facilitate a full recovery.
IF you are able, PLEASE consider a donation to help pay for Saffron’s hospital bills. I know everyone’s finances are tight these days, but little donations add up, so no amount is too small!! You can make a tax deductible donation through the Humane Society or a non-tax deductible donation directly to the Veterinary Clinic.
IF you can help, please MAIL A CHECK TO THE ADDRESS BELOW or CALL THE NUMBER BELOW & GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION to MAKE A DONATION. If you'd like to use Paypal to make a donation please call the Veterinary office 1st so it can be properly applied to Saffron's Account & they will provide you with the Paypal information at that time.
